What is a Contingent Response and what Role it plays in Bi/multilingual Language Development?
🧡
Encourage and support ANY attempt of your child to communicate, whether it's verbal or non-verbal communication, maintain eye contact, and use your face to express emotions. Do it all the time, especially when you're busy, interrupted by a baby, don't want to communicate, or feel depressed.
🧡
Developing communicative skills (including language development) requires other people to reflect and feedback to us. If babies do not receive feedback and support in their attempts to communicate they stop doing it or postpone it until better times (if any)
🧡
Therefore, if you're raising bilingual baby it's vitally important to practice contingent response in every language of your household.
